October 2024 Art Exhibition
Our Annual Art Exhibition, which was held at The Galtres Centre Easingwold on the weekend of the 12th/13th October, was an overwhelming success.
This year was particularly special as we celebrated our 20th year. Both days saw a steady stream of visitors viewing and buying art,
including visitors from Washington D.C.
We are so grateful to the many people who attended and supported us. We had numerous positive comments about the high standard of art on display and that there was a lovely, friendly atmosphere.
The exhibition exceeded all previous records.
The new committee, Fiona, Julie, Pam and Sarah organised and welcomed over forty artists and four local art groups, displaying a wide range of styles, mediums and subject matter.
We are very grateful to all our volunteers who helped out over the weekend, including the Galtres Centre for setting up the exhibition and providing the café. Without them all we wouldn't have been able to organise such a large event.
The Art Pod, a local painting group, did an amazing job organising and manning the raffle. The lucky winners chose from a wonderful selection of prizes including original art and overflowing hampers.
An amazing £760 was raised for Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Much appreciation to everyone who bought a ticket.
On Saturday we featured Russell Hughes, an Easingwold based artist and printmaker working mainly in monoprints, collagraphs, and collage.
His work has strong elements of pattern and colour. Russell explained the process involved in printing, giving demonstrations and handing out examples to budding young artists.
On Sunday we welcomed lone Harrison, a contemporary landscape artist.
Specialising in creating beautiful, atmospheric paintings of northern landscapes. Visitors watched as she worked on a landscape, demonstrating her technique.
We had many excited Easingwold and District Art Society Annual Art Exhibition young artists in from Easingwold Primary School, proudly bringing parents with them to admire their self-portraits. Outwood Academy showcased work from Years 10, 11 and 12. There was a wonderful selection of high quality works, many with a thought provoking message.
John Humphreys had the hardest job of all judging the work and, after much deliberation, narrowed it down to five winners.
This year EDAS has also given a cash donation to each school to help promote art and we look forward to hearing about how they have chosen to spend it.
1st Prize
Katie Isaac - "The River Ouse from Lendal Bridge"
2nd Prize
Pam Chilton - "Molly"
3rd Prize
Jenny Daleywater - "Sleepy Boy"
We are continually looking for support to ensure this very popular event can occur each year.
Becoming a friend of EDAS is an easy way to support us, through an annual small donation. This extra funding allows us to award prizes, invest in exhibition equipment and helps towards the hire of the facilities over the weekend. If you would like any information about taking part next year or becoming a friend of EDAS please contact us through our website.
